SERVICE BULLETIN Group 23-3/No. 14/Version 03
Product Safety Recall Under the Federal Boat Safety Act
Serial Number Range: 4012245468 – 4012256356
Volvo Penta has discovered that some fuel cells on the 3.0 liter fuel injected models listed above may have incorrect machining at the high pressure fuel line connection and are susceptible to leaking. This bulletin provides the instructions for the replacement of the complete fuel cell.
This service must be performed prior to the engine being operated.
All registered owners of affected engines are being notified by Volvo Penta of the need to have the fuel cell replaced by a Volvo Penta dealer. When contacted by owners, dealers are required to perform this service at no cost to the customer and to file a warranty claim as indicated below for reimbursement direct from Volvo Penta. Federal law also requires dealers to replace fuel cells on affected unsold units prior to retail sale.
DANGER! To prevent a possible fire or explosion hazard, operate the engine compartment/bilge blower as recommended by the boat manufacturer before starting this service procedure. If the engine compartment is not equipped with a blower, open the engine cover or hatch before starting so as to disperse any gasoline fumes that may be present.
WARNING! Disconnect the positive and negative battery cables at the battery before commencing any work.
WARNING! When carrying out any work on the fuel system make sure the engine is cold. A fuel spill onto a hot surface or electrical components can cause a fire.
Boats that cannot be repaired at this time should be clearly identified and tagged, signifying that this service bulletin must be performed before the boat is sold and/or the engine is operated.
Please check Volvo Penta Partner Network for claims using serial number search to confirm replacement. If there is a white and green or green only paint dot on top of the fuel pressure regulator housing AND a claim exists, no further action is required. If there is a white and green or green only paint dot and no claim exists, please call Volvo Penta Technical Support before proceeding.
